Walla Walla subchapter: Meet on Whitman Campus in Walla Walla at Harper Joy Theater parking lot at 10am with return by 4pm unless otherwise noted below in descriptions. Trips out of Dayton will connect w/Dayton and TriCities participants at historical railroad ‘Depot’ in Dayton 50 minutes after Walla Walla meet up time.
Highway 204 up Weston Mountain to Summit Road (FS Rd 31). Turn on 360 (second turn to right) and park at roads end. Walk south through trees to Rim Trail 3080; turn left. A favorite hike along the ridge along open rocky slopes descending into forest and over streams with lunch in a marshy meadow around Johnson Creek. Over 160 plants listed by Paul Slickter 6.24.2007. 3.0 miles roundtrip with an uphill return for @1/2 mi. 4400’ Return by 5p.
Bring walking stick, tick repellant, hat, mask, lunch, water and a few dollars for driver. Dress appropriately in sturdy walking shoes or boots and, depending on terrain, long pants. Guests are welcome. Unless otherwise noted, these hikes are easy to moderate elevation and leisurely in pace. Plant lists are available for most.
