Early summer in a mixed conifer forest, deep in humus and carefully protected for your viewing pleasure. Stripped, spotted, hooded, phantom, ladyslippers and rattlesnake plantains - orchids you may be able to spot. Match up their common names w/ Calyso bulbosa, Spiranthes romanzoffiana, Corallorrhiza mertensiana and Cephalanthera austiniae.
Wildflower Hikes: Blue Mountains 2023 CBNPS/WW Subchapter
Meet on Whitman Campus in Walla Walla at Harper Joy Theater parking lot at 10am with return by 4pm unless otherwise noted below in descriptions. Hikes out of Dayton will have WW participants meet w/Dayton and TriCities hikers at historical railroad ‘Depot’ museum in Dayton for carpooling. The group will leave 1 hour after Walla Walla meet uptime.
Bring walking stick, tick repellant, hat, mask, lunch, water and a few dollars for driver. Dress appropriately in sturdy walking shoes or boots and, depending on terrain, long pants. Guests are welcome. Unless otherwise noted, these hikes are easy to moderate elevation and leisurely in pace but involve uneven surfaces. Plant lists are available for most.
